Jumping into the fast growing category of social news, AOL created Propeller (formerly Netscape). The idea was to create social news for the "rest of us". To date the category leader has been DIGG. The audience for DIGG, however, is mainly very tech savvy, with a majority of articles dealing with esoteric techy news. Propeller brings the concept of social news to the masses with a more mainstream approach hosted by a lovable news anchor that pops up around the site to help you out or to just say "hi!". It was a pleasure to collaborate with well known illustrator Chip Wass to personify the brand with such a fun and quirky character .
